Open positions at LMU Munich in NLP and Deep Learning
There are several postdoc and phd positions available at the
Center for Information and Language Processing (CIS) at LMU Munich,
in the groups of Barbara Plank and Hinrich Schuetze.

Topics of research at CIS include: self- and semi-supervised
learning (including few-shot learning and prompting), neural
representation learning, learning from fortuitous data
(e.g., multimodal, cognitive data, human uncertainty),
linguistic investigation of deep learning models, data
selection, domain adaptation, multilingual NLP,
conversational AI, bias and hate speech and computational
CIS is part of ELLIS (ELLIS NLP and the ELLIS unit in
Munich) and PhD students have the opportunity, subject to
approval by ELLIS, to become affiliated with the ELLIS PhD
MUNICH CENTER FOR MACHINE LEARNING (MCML)
The MCML (http://mcml.ai) is a new center in which PIs from
the Munich area, mainly from LMU Munich and TU Munich,
collaborate on advancing machine learning. NLP is one of the
focuses of the MCML. The MCML provides a rich environment
for networking with PhD students and reasearchers in AI and
for collaboration with other groups in the Munich area.
Ideal PhD candidates (resp. PostDoc candidates) have a
master (resp. PhD) in computer science, computational
linguistics or a related discipline, a strong interest in
natural language processing and machine learning, excellent
mathematical and programming skills, are team players and
fluent in English.
The Center for Information and Language Processing (CIS) at
LMU is headed by Barbara Plank and Hinrich Schuetze and is
internationally recognized for its research on statistical
NLP and deep learning applied to NLP. We are a growing team
