It is undeniable that scores are one of the main factor for deciding acceptance or rejection. We should
NOT shy away from giving scores (as long as their values are well defined). However, it is imperative
we allow authors to specify tracks and (target) venues. I adopt different checklists and measures to
evaluate the quality of different papers (for example, a dataset or a method or an analysis) for different
venues (ACL or a workshop). In my experience, a paper that is borderline for ACL could still be excellent
for a workshop, and I want to make this clear in my score, possibly giving 5/5 if I know that the target
venue is a workshop, without leaving the job of understanding it from the text of the review to the
action/area/workshop chairs.
